The hot brines coming out of the earth can be extremely corrosive with complex chemistries. Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, Piping and accessory equipment are all required. Both Titanium and the high nickel alloys are being used depending on the application and the quality of the brine. Pictured is a Titanium Grade 12 primary steam generator for very corrosive brine in Southern California; designed and fabricated by TITAN.

Biomass Fuel

Turning biomass into fuel, or biorefining, requires the cellulose cells to be broken with acid. The technology is still in its infancy with the industry evaluating different acids, concentrations and temperatures. TITAN is helping with budget equipment design and pricing. Titanium, Zirconium and the Hastelloys seem to be the front runners.

Solar Thermal

This technology produces steam for generating electricity by collecting the sun’s energy. Mirrors are used to focus the sunlight on a high temperature collector. The material of construction must be able to handle the high temperatures and the molten salt solutions inside the tube. The high temperature Hastelloys will be used for the primary collectors.
