Throughout the process industries, Zirconium Reactors are praised as very cost-effective methods to resisting damaging corrosive leaks in the process line. TITAN specializes in fabricating equipment of the reactive metals, and is globally known as an expert Zirconium Reactor manufacturer.

TITAN provides the following information as additional background on Zirconium, the alloy characteristics, strengths and how consideration of a Zirconium Reactor could be the answer to corrosion in your application.

Life Cycle Benefits of Zirconium Reactors

Zirconium Reactors should be considered for any application where corrosion is a factor and the long-term benefits of reduced downtime, increased life expectancy and profitability are important.

A Zirconium Reactor may solve many of the problems inherent with lesser materials of construction. It is not brittle and will not crack. Zirconium Reactors feature fully welded designs and will not leak.

Zirconium Reactors can:

  • Deliver many years of economical service life
  • Eliminate downtime due to equipment failure
  • Provide superior corrosion resistance
  • Accommodate high steam pressures
  • Eliminate process leaks

Typically, as plants are designed, some facilities recognize the potential of superior corrosion resistant alloy equipment. This will allow for an increase in process temperature and pressure and take advantage of Zirconium’s capabilities –potential for improvement in process reaction efficiencies, plant throughput and profitability. Zirconium Reactors are fabricated to withstand the likelihood of damaging corrosion.

Zirconium the Metal

Zirconium is one of the most corrosion-resistant metals in common use today.  It is inert to practically all organic and inorganic compounds.  It has good thermal conductivity and erosion resistance.  It forms easily, is highly workable and weldable, and an ideal material for corrosion resistant Zirconium Reactor fabrication.

Please see Applications of Zirconium for additional Zirconium uses, some comparative corrosion resistance data including media, concentrations and temperatures.

Our Technical Resources area also has a complete section on properties and corrosion resistance.

Zirconium Reactor Designs

TITAN designs and custom fabricates many different styles of Zirconium Reactors in accordance with all major international design standards and pressure vessel codes. They are found in a wide variety of environments, across industries including chemical, petrochemical, steel and pharmaceutical applications.

Thermal designs use HTRI and AspenTech.

Manufacturing capacities include widths up to 120″ diameter, 300’ in length and weights up to 200 tons.

Zirconium Reactors can be combined with fiberglass, PTFE lined, glass-lined carbon steel or Zirconium-lined carbon steel. Zirconium can also be explosive clad to carbon steel to form a bimetallic material of construction.

Designs and accessories to Zirconium Reactors include:

  • Solid wall
  • Explosive clad
  • Standard jacket
  • Half pipe jacket
  • Baffles
  • Outlet valves
  • Dip tubes
  • Spargers
